Bringing in the New Year

 31.12.20:

The market was a smaller affair this morning but there was tea to drink with Françoise and the sunshine to enjoy. With a drop in overnight temperatures, the time had come to add on the other duvet so with a total of 15 togs, I'll snuggle down soooo cosily tonight.

New Year's Eve under a curfew was a different kind of affair from usual but our little group ( Gérard, Anna and Nicole) respected tradition with oysters, foie gras, champagne and a grape to eat at every chime of midnight. Our main course was duck breast which, if you're a regular, you'll know it's my all time favourite! The cake was mine. Bedtime came at 2.30am and sleep at 2.35am.

Weather: 10°, sunny

In touch with Friends

27.12.20 - 30.12.20:

Luckily I was saved from spending too much time with my faithful friend the tv,  real friends came by either for coffee (Françoise then Nicole plus her son and his partner the next day) or for tea (the other Nicole, Ken and inevitably his dog) thus also saving me from feeling obliged to work my way through the Christmas cake. There's certainly a lot of eating in it! Perhaps that's why I make it every year. With just as many calories on offer, I also put on an apèritif for Nicole's birthday with Jacques joining us at the last minute. It wasn't all eating though; I also had a couple of good walks. One by myself and another with Françoise. Fine weather in which to breathe in the scenery, fresh air and scent of mimosa. Can't be too smug though. ; team calorie is way out in front of team physical effort. No! Redressing the balance won't figure on my New Year's resolution list 'cos I aint making one!

Weather: 12°, blue sky and light cloud

Christmas came and went.

25.12.20:

Surprised to wake up earlier than usual after yesterday's indulgence. Lingered and then organised drinks for Michel and Linde. Joined Ann and Terry for lunch of Beef Wellington. Passed a quiet but pleasant afternoon and was home with 5 minutes to spare before the curfew.

Weather: 7°, blue sky and strong winds of 45km/h

26.12.20:

Suffice it to say that I bypassed breakfast and went straight from bed to lunch. Still very windy so stayed close to the fire, watched tv, ate chocolate and got around to painting the door decorations made from loo rolls. Don't ask .... the photo and a bit of imagination is enough. Pity my artistic talents weren't up to the job. Consoled myself with a shrug of the shoulders and a mug of the mulled wine I brewed up a couple of days ago.

Weather: 9°, sun and winds slightly less strong than yesterday

Réveillion

 24.12.20: Later

Spent the "Réveillon" with Martine and her two friends. Apéritif of verrines and champagne; oysters, foie gras, guinea fowl, cheese and chocolate log. There was also more champagne, red wine and white wine to help it all down. Not tooo excessive! There was a curfew exemption this evening so it was about 1.30am by the time I made it home with the lovely thought that I didn't have to rush to get out of bed when I woke up.

Weather: 12°, overcast.  Gusts of 145km/h on the coast
