The Rain in Spain

The rain is even heavier today but intrepid souls that we are we headed up to our twinned village for their local fête. Decided not to take the mountain road just in case ... we were impressed to see muddy, swollen rivers overflowing into the fields on the other side of the border. Christian, Maggie, myself went with the Mayor and his wife and arrived in time for the communal apéritif just as people were coming out of Mass. Before people were let lose on what was laid out on the tables we all clapped in time as the village banner was paraded around the room. Sadly, I was too slow off the mark to capture it on photo. Had lunch at a down-to-earth café just along the road. Just look at the size of my glass of sherry and the extravaganza that looks like a knickerbocker glory is actually a Catalan take on Irish Coffee. Of course we couldn't visit the village without a trip to Conxita's where she offered either rum or brandy to put in our coffees. Pfew! Back to the village hall for the Mayor and his wife to dance a few sardanes before going back over the mountains.
The day was not yet over, however as we were invited to Linde's to try out the apple pie that her visitor, Rob had made. The pastry was delicious and we'll worry about the calories tomorrow.
