Gastro Trail

Our November night away couldn't come soon enough especially for Christian who's been incredibly busy at the Mairie. We didn't leave until the afternoon as I had Spanish in the morning and Christian too had things to do. Would you believe it, he even stopped half way through loading the car to go and sort something out. We finally got away about 3.30pm and as luck would have it after rain that's been more on than off, it was lovely and sunny.
Settled into our hotel in Banyoles in Catalunya Sud and went for a walk before settling down to an apéritif of cava before dinner at 9pm.
We opted for the "Tasting" Menu which consisted of three different little appetisers, five dishes and two desserts:

Bloody Mary Jelly with a Fresh Anchovy Garnish
Apple and Black Pudding Ravioli
Brawn with Green Peppercorns served on Toast

Marinaded Sardines with Sun Dried Tomato on a bed of Chickpea Purée

Marinaded Tuna with Preserved Vegetables

Foie Gras with Peaches (in November?) and a Pommegranite Sauce

Fish (a white one but I didn't catch the name) on a bed of lightly Sautéed Vegetables

Braised (boned) oxtail with a (very smooth) Potato Purée

Lemon Panna Cotta with a Berry Sauce

Caramelised Banana, Ice Cream, Banana and Rum Sorbet

The menu came in at 65€ each so imagine our surprise to find that the bread was charged at 3.50€ each! Still, it is a restaurant that is well and truly on the gastronomic map with a Michelin*, so I guess it's all par for the course.
